Shut Up and Drive ♥ 5:23 PM
It's like 5.20 late in the afternoon, exactly 12 hours since my last post and I'm stuck with a sleeping baby. I.AM.Absolutely.BORED.outta my wits
Well, my previous post highlighted the fun we had on New Year's, but I did not mention about our encounter with a ridiculous cab driver.
Okay, so after dawn broke on the 1st of Jan 2010, all of us dragged our fatigue feet around HabourFront in search of an available cab, but NONE was in sight. So we whipped out our cells, frantically trying to call a taxi. Despite doing that with great effort with our raging heads, it was a failed attempt. In fact, we should've known, the New Year's crowd which included lorries of beach-party goers? Peak hour? I mean THAT enough made terms to hailing an available cabby close to impossible. We ended up wandering aimlessly and finally hopping onto the long awaited, AVAILABLE four wheeler.
I was very much comforted, thinking the physical ordeal was over, but I didn't expect a mental one to come right up.
See, when we boarded that vehicle, JH was pretty grumpy and he complained about how we spent sixty minutes trying to flag a taxi. THAT sprung off a chain of absurd and obnoxious comments made by this taxi uncle.
He suggested we, as Singaporean cab patronizers should just use a huge sum of money as bait for cab drivers to come pick us up. BECAUSE ALL TAXI DRIVERS ARE "GIAN PENG" ( greedy for money ) and he repeated " Tis is human natures" about a thousand times!! He had to highly emphasize that statement as if he was so proud of his avaricious trait.
He then went on about how unlike Caucasians, we, locals are very stingy. I mean given his greedy nature, and a local Chinese himself, it's pretty ridiculous having those words dispensed from his mouth. He also added that foreigners actually paid him a clean straight 100 to be driven just for a short distance and WE should do that too. Not only did he stereotype and criticize, it was his repulsive and cocky tone of voice that got on my last nerve.
My mind was already in a daze after recovering from getting slightly wasted, exhaustion and a sleepless night. So basically everything that would annoy me on a normal basis, actually pissed me off big time that morning. I almost yelled " Shut Up and Drive, for goodness sake", but I'd play Grace Kelly, so I held myself back (:
I just couldn't wait to get outta that car! When I did, it felt so much better. Got home, slumped on the bed and had my beauty sleep (:
